Early Career Researchers - Apply for a SIAM Science Policy Fellowship
SIAM is now accepting applications for the Science Policy Fellowship Program, open to all early career researchers currently working in the U.S. This program was created to enable post-doctoral fellows and early career researchers to be strong advocates for federal investments in applied mathematics and computational science. Benefits of this fellowship include receiving in-person and remote training; attending biannual SIAM Committee on Science Policy Meetings in Washington, DC; working with federal officials; and participating in an advocacy day on Capitol Hill. Registration Opens for M3 Challenge
MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge aims to make math relatable and to demonstrate its importance and value in solving complex issues. Organized by SIAM and sponsored by MathWorks, M3 Challenge is an online contest that has drawn the participation of more than 41,000 students (one third female), 4,000+ high schools, 5,000+ math teachers, and 400+ Ph.D.-level judges, and has awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships since its launch in 2006. Hidden Figures Author Margot Lee Shetterly to Receive 2019 JPBM Communications Award
Margot Lee Shetterly will receive the 2019 Joint Policy Board for Mathematics (JPBM) Communications Award for her book and subsequent movie Hidden Figures, which opened science and mathematics to a new generation of women and people of color by bringing into light the stories of the African-American women who made significant contributions to aeronautics and astronautics, and, ultimately, to America's victory in the space race. Applications Open for AAAS Mass Media Fellowship
Each summer, SIAM supports a Mass Media Fellow to spend 10 weeks as a science reporter in the newsroom at places like National Geographic, Washington Post, and Scientific American.
