SIAM Welcomes Two New Staff Members

Two new staff members have joined the SIAM team over the past few months. Get to know:

Kyle Melton, Software Developer

Kyle comes to SIAM from Vsolvit, where he worked as a government contractor for the past five years. Prior to that, he was employed at TransCore on the EZpass management software after graduating college.

Kyle's responsibilities as a developer include creating and updating reports, as well as maintaining and enhancing existing applications.

Q: Why are you excited to be working at SIAM?

A: I am excited to be working with a small, agile development team that can help me develop my skill sets.

Q: What part of SIAM’s mission statement do you connect with most?

A: I appreciate SIAM's emphasis on collaboration for the purpose of advancements in research, instead of competition.

Q: Why do you think STEM is important?

A: STEM leads to improvements in our lives through medical and technological advancements.

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: I am a 2nd degree black belt.

Q: How does the information systems department (ISD) improve SIAM? 

A: ISD works towards maintaining applications and upkeeping software for all staff.

Curtis Thompson, Shipping Clerk

Curtis comes to SIAM after working at Temple University with Facilities Management, and previously the Mail Operations Center for Temple's main campus. His career history spans over 20 years, with extensive experience in mail services; as well as a combination of experiences in retail, customer service and distribution, food service, manufacturing, and more.

Curtis' responsibilities include shipping and receiving packages, metering mail, inventory, and other duties as assigned.

Q: Why are you excited to be working at SIAM?

A: I am looking forward to learning more of my position at SIAM and broadening my knowledge of the organization itself.

Q: What part of SIAM’s mission statement do you connect with most?

A: I appreciate SIAM’s dedication to finding solutions toward real world problems in the ever-changing times we live in.

Q: Why do you think STEM is important?

A: I think STEM is integral to future medical discoveries, advancements of technology, and other societal improvements.

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: I like old, black and white movies, dramas, crime noirs, and western films.

Q: Why are distribution services important to SIAM? 

A: Distributions services aids in timely book order shipments, supporting staff with conference shipments, and other packaging. Whether it's rerouting packages or handling last-minute shipments, we hold it down!
