SIAM Welcomes Two New Staff Members

Two new staff members have joined the SIAM team over the past few months. Get to know:

Shayneea Francesconi

Shayneea (Shay) joins SIAM after working at Jay Nolan Community Services, a home support non-profit, as a Community Support Supervisor. Prior to that, her career consisted of office administration and retail management experience. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in business management from San Jose State University.

Shay handles all receptionist duties and assists Customer Service with administrative tasks including, but not limited to, processing new student memberships and preparing new membership mailings.

Q: Why are you excited to be working at SIAM?

A: I’m excited to be able to work at SIAM because I appreciate the continuous efforts in maintaining longevity with its members by providing diverse opportunities to network within the applied mathematics and computational science community. 

Q: What part of SIAM’s mission statement do you connect with most?

A: I appreciate that SIAM focuses its energies on promoting research through its publications and effective conferences, thus leading to the advancement of applied mathematics and scientific knowledge. 

Q: Why do you think STEM is important?

A: I have always been fascinated with science and how it helps us to identify the way the world is designed and interconnected. The advancement of STEM helps to promote the collaboration across disciplines of applied mathematics and sciences in such a way that will benefit the generations to come; encouraging others to work together to further develop scientific insight in our modern-day society.  

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: I ran track and field as a sprinter for six years.

Q: How is Customer Service important to SIAM? 

A: Customer Service is essential in fulfilling the needs of SIAM members. It gives members a pathway to access a variety of our resources with ease.

Rose Kolassiba

Rose comes to SIAM from the Southern Nevada Mensa, where she was a volunteer newsletter editor, and Study.com as a lesson review and editor. Previously, her career has been a combination of food service jobs and freelance editorial work while attending the University of North Florida.

Rose’s responsibilities center around supporting SIAM’s book acquisitions editors throughout the editorial process. This includes handling manuscripts, collaborating with different departments, liaising with authors, and adhering to publication schedules.

Q: Why are you excited to be working at SIAM?

A: I’m excited to work at SIAM because I’ve always had an interest in publishing, and I think SIAM puts immense effort in crafting interesting and valuable texts in the field of applied mathematics.

Q: What part of SIAM’s mission statement do you connect with most?

A: I connect with SIAM’s dedication to fostering connections between the fields of mathematics and technology. In an ever-increasing technological world, I think building a community between those worlds is important to advancing society.

Q: Why do you think STEM is important?

A: From groundbreaking medical discoveries to neat, quirky facts about our planet, STEM enriches our lives in myriad ways and it’s crucial that we continue investing in it to see just how far we can go.

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: I love musical theatre and I was in the University of North Florida’s first ever musical theatre show, which happened to be a production of “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton!

Q: Why are publications important to SIAM? 

A: SIAM’s books both introduce new ideas in the field of applied mathematics and expand and enrich existing concepts in the field, and I think that’s fundamental in pushing this field forward.
