SIAM Welcomes New Staff Members

The SIAM team is excited to introduce two new staff members. Get to know:

Zora Viel, Marketing and Communications Assistant

Zora joins SIAM after working in nonprofit social media management for several years. They have an academic background in journalism but will be pursuing studies in higher education and society in the fall of 2023. 

Zora’s job responsibilities include content creation, editing, and uploading for various SIAM channels. 

Q: Why are you excited to be working at SIAM? 

A: I like the people and the challenge. I’m not used to creating STEM-focused content, but it’s been fun to see how things can play out. 

Q: What part of SIAM’s mission statement do you connect with? 

A: I connect with SIAM’s mission to solve the world’s problems. It’s inspiring to see how people can help society using mathematics. 

Q: Why do you think STEM is important?

A: The different areas within STEM allow people to communicate various processes of our world and how we can use them to our benefit. 

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: I love making music with my friends and slam poetry! 

Q: How are marketing/digital communications important to SIAM?

A: They help portray the good SIAM is doing and sharing important, relevant news to the broader community.

Dana Wright, Customer Service Representative 

Dana comes to SIAM from Clarivate, formerly known as ISI/Thomson Reuters, as member of the production department. Her career began with 10 years filing legal documents in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, U.S. Federal Court, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Superior Court of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Criminal Court, and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Dana then transitioned into web design as a web editor for an all-sports website for 14 years, and the assistant web master for Quadratec, before joining Clarivate.

Dana’s responsibilities as part of the customer service team include answering customer inquiries, updating internal databases, and assisting with conference registrations.

Q: Why are you excited to be working at SIAM? 

A: I appreciate the sense of a tight-knight community.

Q: What part of SIAM’s mission statement do you connect with? 

A: I like connecting with customers and doing my best to assist them.

Q: Why do you think STEM is important?

A: STEM is the driving force of progress both good and bad. I hope to see more STEM programs targeting underserved communities.

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: I can’t think of anything. I’m pretty boring.

Q: How does Customer Service team benefit the SIAM community?

A: Customer service is here to provide customers with information regarding our products, answer questions, and to help solve problems in the most satisfactory manner.
