SIAM Welcomes New Director of Programs and Services

The SIAM team has grown recently, bringing on board a new Director of Programs and Services. Get to know Richard O. Moore!

Richard O. Moore, Director of Programs and Services

Richard has been active in the field of applied mathematics since earning his PhD at Northwestern University in 2001.  He has been active in SIAM throughout his academic career, presenting at SIAM conferences, publishing in SIAM journals, and serving as Secretary in the SIAM Activity Group on Nonlinear Waves and Coherent Structures.  Richard is very involved in mentorship activities related to mathematical modeling and serves on the Organizing Committee of the annual Mathematical Problems in Industry Workshop. He comes to SIAM from his position as Associate Professor (with tenure) and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at New Jersey Institute of Technology.  In his spare time, Richard enjoys tennis and traveling with his wife and two kids.

Q: Why are you excited to be working at SIAM?

A: I have always admired the quality of SIAM’s conferences and journals, and SIAM’s dedication to the advancement and dissemination of industrial and applied mathematics in the U.S. and throughout the world.  I am very excited to be part of this organization.

Q: Why do you think STEM is important?

A: Knowledge comes in many forms, but none with such immediate application to our lives as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Q: What is one thing that most people don't know about you?

A: I am a citizen of (and have active or expired passports from) four different countries.

Please join all of us here at SIAM in welcoming Richard to the team!
