SIAM Visiting Lecturer Program

Back to School: Invite a Lecturer to Your Campus

Did you know - SIAM has revitalized the Visiting Lecturer Program! The program provides the SIAM community with a roster of experienced applied mathematicians and computational scientists in industry, government, and academia, who can speak on topics that are of interest to developing professional mathematicians. As we head back into the school year, consider inviting one of these speakers to visit your campus and give a talk! Meet our lecturers and learn more about the program.

2018 SIAM General Election: Polls Open Tomorrow!

Polls open September 11 for the SIAM election for Board of Trustees and Council! Get to know the candidates; take a few minutes to read the candidate profiles and statements, and check your inbox this week for voting instructions.

SIAM Fellows: Make a Nomination

Nominations for the 2019 Class of Fellows are being accepted now through November 6! Help raise visibility of the applied math community by making a nomination. Members can nominate up to two individuals for distinguished work. Learn more about the SIAM Fellows Program and make your nomination now.

Upcoming Activity Group Elections: What You Need to Know

We are proud to have 12 Activity Groups that have renewed their charters, and 10 holding elections for new officers this fall. Activity Groups with elections this year include:

APDE (Analysis of Partial Differential Equations)
CSE (Computational Science and Engineering)
ED (Applied Mathematics Education)
GD (Geometric Design)
GS (Geosciences)
LA (Linear Algebra)
LS (Life Sciences)
MPE (Mathematics of Planet Earth)
NWCS (Nonlinear Waves and Coherent Structures)
UQ (Uncertainty Quantification)

Remember – your voice is important! If you are a member of one of the Activity Groups listed above, please keep an eye on your inbox for more information about who is running for office and how to vote. Results will be released January 1, 2019.

Idea Machine Competition: Submit Your Idea

Help identify areas for future research. The National Science Foundation 2026 Idea Machine, a competition asking for community input on the next set of grand challenge questions for future research, is now accepting ideas! Any idea for future themes in science, engineering, and education research that go beyond NSF’s existing portfolio is welcome. Learn more from Juan Meza, Director of the Division of Mathematical Sciences at the NSF.
