Found: Title Sponsor for Math Modeling Challenge

The Math Modeling Challenge continues! We've landed a new sponsor for this long-standing SIAM program, and are excited to tell the community who it is - but not quite yet! We'll be announcing our new partnership in coming weeks. Curious? Follow the story at m3challenge.siam.org and on social media. And don't forget, registration for the 2018 challenge will open following the announcement. Stay tuned!

From Leadership: A Rewarding Year for SIAM

From the growth of our programs and international reach to our journals, which continue to be among the most respected in the field, SIAM's financial picture is strong overall, though we suffered a deficit in our yearly operational budget last year. SIAM Executive Director, Jim Crowley, and Chief Operating Officer, Susan Palantino, share more about our recent finances, and a look at what's to come. Read more.

Celebrate #GivingTuesday on November 28

We're proud to be a part of this international day of giving here at SIAM. We are immensely thankful for each and every donation to our cause of promoting applied mathematics, which allows us to better serve our mission and community. Learn more about SIAM's mission and how you can support it, or choose another important organization to donate to on November 28. Check out givingtuesday.org to find out more!

Call for Applications: 2018 Gene Golub SIAM Summer School

Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 Gene Golub SIAM Summer School, happening June 17-30, 2018, in Breckenridge, Colorado, USA. The summer school aims to introduce graduate students to the mathematical and computational aspects of inverse problems, particularly modern developments that emphasize the quantification of uncertainty in the inverse solution within the framework of Bayesian inference. Applicants selected to participate pay no registration fee, and funding for local accommodations and meal expenses will be available. Applications are being accepted now through February 1.

Looking Ahead: 2018 SIAM Annual Meeting

Our Annual Meeting is a forum that bridges subdisciplinary boundaries and promotes interaction across SIAM’s diverse international membership in academia, industry, and government. Organizing Committee Co-chairs Douglas N. Arnold and Lois Curfman McInnes highlight what you can expect at AN18 this summer, and how you can help guide the meeting's scientific content. Read more.

Faculty: Nominate Your Students

Has your student’s paper recently been accepted in a SIAM journal? Consider nominating that student for the SIAM Student Paper Prize. We’re accepting nominations now through February 15, and we’re excited about some changes to eligibility for this prize.

Eligibility is limited to papers accepted for publication by SIAM journals in the last three years and has broadened to include authors who are no longer students, as long as they were students when the paper was submitted. Learn more about making a 2018 nomination and please share this information with your fellow advisors!
