PP22 Participant Guide

We look forward to your participation at the SIAM Conference on Parallel Processing for Scientific Computing (PP22).

As you are aware, due to concern over an abrupt rise in COVID infections, the conference will now be held in a fully virtual format. Visit SIAM Hybrid Conference Guidelines & Policies for more information about when hybrid conferences pivot to virtual.

Please review the information below, which includes important participation details.

Virtual Platform and Mobile App Information

All conference registrants will have access to the PP22 virtual platform powered by Pathable and accessible via a web browser or downloadable mobile app. A list of system requirements for access via web browser or mobile app is available - read now.

Prior to the conference, participants will receive an email from SIAM with instructions on how to access the platform. Links to access the platform using your browser and to download the app will also be posted to the PP22 conference website.

The program is available on the PP22 virtual platform and here. Please note the virtual platform will adjust to the time zone of the user’s computer, but times in the online program are listed in Pacific Time (UTC-8). All sessions will take place during their scheduled program time and accessed via the PP22 virtual platform. All sessions other than invited plenary and prize (IP and SP) talks will be held as Zoom meetings. If you are not acquainted with Zoom, we recommend becoming familiar with the Zoom Meeting format prior to the conference.

Plenary and prize (IP and SP) speakers will be contacted directly by SIAM with additional instructions.

When interacting with the PP22 virtual platform using your browser or mobile app, access a list of sessions using the “Agenda” option under “Schedule”. After selecting “Agenda,” find the session you are seeking, and click on it. A “Join Now” button will appear when the session is live, where “This live meeting hasn't started yet” currently appears. Sessions will open to all participants one (1) minute prior to the session start time. Sessions will open twenty (20) minutes prior for session organizers, speakers, panelists, and session chairs. Additional information for session organizers, speakers, panelists, poster presenters, and session chairs is below.

SIAM’s online conference program contains the most current scheduling details. The agenda shown on the PP22 virtual platform will be updated regularly with a delay of up to two hours.

Speaker, Panelist, and Session Chair/Minisymposium Organizer Information

The PP22 virtual platform will recognize those serving as session organizers, chairs, speakers, and panelists, and these participants will be able to access these sessions twenty (20) minutes prior to the session start time. Follow the instructions above titled “Virtual Platform and Mobile App Information” for instructions on accessing your session.

Upon entering the session via the virtual platform, every session organizer, speaker, panelist, and session chair will be greeted by an audio-visual technician from SIAM’s audio-visual partner, CMI, who will assist you during set-up. Please introduce yourself and indicate whether you are a session organizer, session chair, speaker, or panelist. The CMI technician will assist you with testing audio, video, and screen share capabilities. After this is complete, stay muted until you are introduced by the session chair.

Please note: If you are Invited Plenary (IP) or Prize (SP) speaker, you will be contacted under separate cover regarding accessing your session.

Session organizers and session chairs are responsible for introducing each speaker and adhering to the posted schedule.  It is imperative that sessions conclude at the scheduled end time.

To minimize disruptions in the event of a dropped internet connection, we recommend presenters send the session organizers/chair a copy of their slides with a phone number where they can be reached during the session. Session organizers/chairs can alternatively opt to play a prerecorded talk over Zoom screen share in exceptional circumstances.

A CMI technician will be present to kick off each Zoom session. If you encounter technical issues during your session, ask the CMI technician verbally or via the Zoom chat function, or request assistance via the “Need help? Get support” button at the top left of the PP22 virtual platform homepage if using your browser or click “Get Support” from the mobile app flyout menu.

Information for Poster Presenters

Poster presenters are able to upload their poster files as soon as they have registered and have access to the virtual platform (see above). To upload your poster, click on “Poster Session” in the top right of the platform’s navigation bar and scroll down to find your poster title. Click on the box to enter your poster booth, click “Manage” in the top right then “Files” in the tabs that are displayed. Using the “ADD NEW FILE” button you will be able to add files for your booth. We recommend PDF format for the poster itself. Presenters may also upload supporting documents and recorded video walkthroughs in MP4 format. During the live poster session, each poster will have a Zoom meeting active and accessible from the poster booth to allow group discussions.

A gentle reminder, registration is required, and we request speakers register 48 hours prior to presentation time. Register now. To avoid potential login issues when accessing the virtual conference platform, and to ensure all conference-related correspondence is directed to the same email address, speakers, panelists, session organizers, session chairs, and poster participants should ensure the email address in SIAM’s Conference Registration System matches the email address associated with your main SIAM account.
