SIAM-AAAS Mass Media Fellow: Jesse Dunietz

SIAM is proud to sponsor a student in applied mathematics and computational science to participate in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Mass Media Science and Engineering Fellows Program. In order to strengthen the connection between science and the media, the chosen undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate student spends 10 weeks during the summer at a radio station, television station, newspaper, or magazine. AAAS Fellows use their academic training as they research, write, and report today’s headlines, sharpening their abilities to communicate complex scientific issues to the public. The fellowship program is designed to enhance coverage of science-related issues in the media in order to improve public understanding and appreciation of science and technology.

This year, SIAM sponsored Jesse Dunietz who is now nearing the end of his fellowship in the AAAS Mass Media Science and Engineering Fellows Program. During his fellowship, Dunietz has written news stories on raven intelligence and particle physics. He also wrote a report about a self-driving race car while at a racing event.
