Speakers Wanted: SIAM Revitalizes Visiting Lecture Program

The SIAM Education Committee has been working to relaunch and revitalize the SIAM Visiting Lecturer (VLP) Program and we would appreciate your help.

The VLP functions as a valuable resource to the mathematical sciences community by presenting students, chairpersons, colloquium organizers, and undergraduate advisors with a  list of applied mathematicians working in industry, government, and academia who can speak on a variety of interesting topics.

The SIAM VLP benefits undergraduates, graduate students and faculty at every level by exposing them to new areas and problems in industrial and applied mathematics and to career opportunities. In particular, SIAM chapters and SIAM student members are the audience that we always keep in mind.

Please give us your recommendations of experienced and engaging speakers who have a commitment to education and who have the ability to reach students. If you think that you fit the bill, please nominate yourself! Please note that these recommendations will be strictly vetted; not all will be selected as speakers.

VLP topics should be adaptable to different audience levels. SIAM members are particularly welcome as are speakers at various career levels. Think about those mathematicians you know working in industry and government, or faculty who have worked closely with industry or on problems focused on applications who may be well suited for the VLP and add their information to the spreadsheet here. Alternately, you can email Suzy Weekes ([email protected]) the information below.

  • Candidate’s first and last name
  • Company affiliation
  • Email address
  • Any notes or tags that should be associated with the person

Thank you for your time and your help!
