10 Things Not to Miss at AN16

SIAM staff gets as excited about our annual meetings as you do. That’s why we put together this list of #SIAMAN16 happenings you simply cannot miss – from the perspective of your very own SIAM staff. From freebies to special talks and events, notable lectures and more - take a look! You may discover something going on this week that you didn’t even have on your radar. Read now.

NEW Instructional Video Series: What is Math Modeling?

You’re one of the first to hear about our just-released seven part math modeling video series - Math Modeling: Getting Started and Getting Solutions - a how-to video guide. The series is an instructional, episodic treatment of the math modeling process as described in the SIAM math modeling handbook. Through each short video, students work through the process and explain each step along the way. Video footage was shot at a math modeling day at the Rutgers Preparatory school in NJ, where at least 50 students put the handbook to use doing math modeling problems. Watch the videos now.

2016 Moody’s Mega Math Workshop – NYC

On April 25, dozens of students from underserved NYC high schools were adding up the reasons why math is relevant outside of the classroom and how math modeling can be used to solve real life problems. It was all part of a first-ever initiative by SIAM and our partners at The Moody’s Foundation called the Moody’s Mega Math Workshop. The workshop - led by Katie Kavanagh of Clarkson University - was held to encourage high school students to consider math and science-related careers. Watch the workshop video and learn more about this exciting event.
