New SIAM Activity Group on Applied and Computational Discrete Algorithms
SIAM is happy to announce the new SIAM Activity Group on Applied and Computational Discrete Algorithms. This activity group fosters research on the computational solution of combinatorial problems in areas including combinatorial scientific computing, algorithmic computer science, algorithm engineering, algorithmic differentiation, combinatorial optimization, and emerging applications. Drawing from academia, national research labs, and industry, the activity group will bring together mathematicians, computer scientists, statisticians, scientists, and engineers to promote research in applied and computational combinatorics. Watch Livestream of Invited & Prize Lectures at CSE19
Several distinguished applied mathematicians will give invited talks and prize lectures at the upcoming 2019 SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE19). For the first time, each of these 12 lectures will be streamed live from the conference and available to watch on the CSE19 homepage for those who will not be at the meeting! Learn more.

5th Irish SIAM Student Chapter Conference
Love hearing about these awesome events! Last month, the University of Limerick SIAM Student Chapter and the Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry (MACSI), held the 5th Irish SIAM Student Chapter Conference. Aimed at postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers working in applied and industrial mathematics or related areas, the conference was intended to build relationships and encourage collaboration between early career researchers from both Irish and UK institutions. M3 Challenge Registration Closes February 22
Registration for MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge 2019 closes in less than two weeks! SIAM’s partnership with MathWorks provides many free resources to help teams prepare for success – including handbooks on modeling, instructive videos, and free licenses for software. High school juniors and seniors seeking a pinnacle high school experience and the chance to win money for college are encouraged to participate. The contest is free and open to all U.S. students and will award top teams this year with $100,000 in scholarships. Learn more.

We are excited to announce the launch of our latest journal, SIAM Journal on Mathematics of Data Science (SIMODS), which begins publishing February 12! The journal advances mathematical, statistical, and computational methods in the context of data and information sciences. We have seen a high volume of submissions, demonstrating the immense interest in this area of research and confirming SIMODS will be of great use to the community. Of those many submissions, tomorrow we will bring you 10 excellent papers along with an introduction to the journal, authored by Editor-in-Chief Tamara G. Kolda.
