SIAM Seeks Software Developer

Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) seeks a talented, self-motivated, and detail-oriented individual for the position of Software Developer in the Information Management Systems Department. This position is full-time and works at SIAM’s office in Philadelphia, PA. Staff are working remotely during the pandemic.

The Software Developer is responsible for the development, implementation, and support of software programs and applications to achieve the technical and business goals of SIAM. They will work with coworkers and external personnel to develop software solutions by defining technical requirements, designing, coding, testing, and debugging applications in various software languages through the full application life-cycle to meet business requirements using current programming standards and best practices.

The Software Developer will review designs, code, and testing procedures to ensure quality and adherence to best practices and requirements; provide assistance and consulting to staff to ensure the effective development and use of SIAM applications; identify and recommend development tools and techniques to improve the quality of SIAM’s software development processes and resulting applications; maintain job knowledge and skills by studying state-of-the-art development tools and programming methodologies; and protect system security and confidential information by recommending and applying industry best practices for software development and system design.

Experience and Qualifications

A B.S. in computer science or a related degree is strongly preferred. Equivalent work experience may be accepted in lieu of this requirement. A minimum of 5 years of work experience is required. Relevant work experience in .NET programming languages, especially C#, is a must. The ideal candidate is self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a development team

Preferred Skills

  • Fluent in the following additional programming languages: SQL, JavaScript, XML

  • Experience with database design and programming

  • Understanding of platforms and operating systems and how they interact and support the application layer technology

  • Experience implementing and integrating cross platform applications through APIs, web services, and other protocols and technologies

  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience

  • Experience communicating technical detail to both technical and non-technical audiences in writing and in verbal presentations

  • Experience testing and documenting computer systems

  • Experience working within an Agile software development environment
