Call for Submissions: 2008 SIAM Student Paper Prize

Submissions are invited for the 2008 SIAM Student Paper Prize Competition. Student paper prizes recognize outstanding scholarship by students in applied mathematics or scientific computing. As many as three prizes can be awarded annually.

Co-authored papers are eligible for the competition. Awards are based solely on the merit and content of a student’s contribution to a submitted paper.

This year’s prizes will be awarded at the 2008 SIAM Annual Meeting, which will be held July 7–11, in San Diego, California. Each prize recipient will receive a framed certificate and a cash award of $1000 and will have the opportunity to present his or her paper at the meeting. Recipients also receive $500 toward travel expenses and gratis registration for the meeting.

Eligibility is restricted to students in good standing who have not yet earned a PhD by the application deadline. Papers entered in the competition must already have been submitted for publication.

Complete eligibility requirements and instructions for the submission of papers and other required documents can be found at www.siam.org/prizes/nominations/nom_student.php.

All papers and accompanying documentation must be received at the SIAM office on or before February 15, 2008.  Submissions should be directed to the attention of William L. Briggs, Chair: SIAM Student Paper Prize Committee, and sent to: J.M. Littleton, littleton@siam.org. Inquiries can also be directed to littleton@siam.org.
